Bedazzle My Ride

Not much to report about today, just a school/homework day I did see this car at one of the malls we go to, it is a bedazzled Mercedes-Benz. Not quite sure as to why but it looks kind of neat.

Sketch A Day: Day 3
Prompt Favorite Food, which I just happened to have for dinner today! Yumm :)
I didn't spend as much time on today's so this one is a bit more 'sketchy' than the others.

Temple

Last week for my Art of China class my professor (who reminds me of the butler from the Adam's Family) took us out to the nunnery, that I had been to the first week I got here, and another local temple. It is pretty cool because people put in their own deities/shrines and pray to them there so the temple isn't really dedicated to any one god.

They had these huge statues of all the animals from the zodiac, here is mine the ram.

Here they had this fortune thing that you knelt in front of this shrine and got a little bucket full of little sticks that had numbers on them and what you did was shake it while thinking of a question you wanted answered until one of the sticks fall out. You then right down the number and then get a slip that answers your question.

This is the paper I got, I asked Professor Cheung, who is a Hong Kong native, to translate it for me. All of the fortunes are in the form of old Chinese stories mine was about this man who was a really good son to his parents even though he's parents were not exactly what one would call nice or good people. They all lived on a farm and the son would work tirelessly everyday on this plot of land that was not fertile and good to farm on, but eventually he was able to make the land prosper. At least that is how I remember it went.

And also Day 2 of my sketch a day! Today's prompt was to draw your favorite animal. I wasn't planning to spend as much time on it as I did but I think it turned out pretty well. I'm hoping this challenge will help me to draw faster since it usually takes me forever to finish anything.

Sketch a Day

I decided to take up a challenge of doing a sketch a day. I started yesterday but couldn't upload it since the blogger website hasn't been letting me upload anything.

Day 1: draw yourself
I decided to start this off kind of silly by drawing myself as a Pokemon trainer

Nothing really has been going on lately, I was supposed to go shopping with Katie but she left some things she needed back at the dorm so we couldn't go, I think we shall try again another day.

That's all for now!

The Markets

This weekend Keith, who is a friend of Kristin's, came to visit as he stopped in Hong Kong in his journey around the world. So we decided to play tour guide and help him get around the city since we now have a pretty good grasp on what is where. We decided to visit some of the specialty markets that could be found on the streets of Hong Kong. The first one we went to was the Flower Market, which is probably the nicest smelling part of town that I have been in since the street normally just smell of fish, smoke, and Chinese food of course. My favorite part of the market had to be all the Orchids that they had, there were at least three stores that were filled with different colored Orchids in all sizes.

Right across the street was what would probably be my Grandma, Ita's favorite place to visit, the bird market! Which of course had birds everywhere! In and out of cages.  This smelled quite a bit worse than the flowers. The most disturbing parts were the bags filled with live crickets were all over! I tried my best to avoid them.

Afterwords we found a that there was a Hong Kong food festival which consisted of stalls of all kinds of food and tons of free samples, most of which were different kind of teas. But the place was extremely packed and super full of people, making it a bit difficult to navigate.

Once we had our fill of food we went to the last market which is known a the goldfish market even though there were all kinds of different fish. It reminded me a lot of a carnival game since they were all hanging around in little plastic clear bags.
